| Kids goal is to have a blast! | Kids from north-west Sheffield will be putting their fancy footwork to the test on Friday 22nd August, when they take part in the Blastoff 2008 final.
The Blastoff 2008 final is being held at Concord Sports Centre from 4pm – 9pm. It’s the culmination of weeks of training over the last few weeks, and so 15, five-a-side teams will be battling it out for the title of Blastoff Football Champions.
“There are two age categories, 11-13 and 14-16, taking part in the finals, and all these kids have been working really hard to improve their footballing skills,” said Cllr Sylvia Dunkley, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Streetscene from Sheffield City Council.
“As well as the football matches, there’ll also be some other activities going on that any children can have a go at – archery, street dance and ‘bungee-run.’ The event is completely free and I’d really encourage friends and families to come along and cheer everyone along.”
On the night, English Super Featherweight boxer Femi Fehintola will present the winners and runners up with their trophies and medals. The aim of the Blastoff programme is to give young people positive activities to do, in order to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour.
It is organised by Sheffield City Council in partnership with the Police, Sheffield Futures, Sheffield Homes and NACRO.
