Malaysian sporting spectacular back in Sheffield

Students from Malaysia and Singapore have descended on Sheffield for an annual sporting spectacular.

Members of the Sheffield Malaysian Students Association (SMSA) took part in the Sheffield Malaysian Games, held at Concord Sports Centre on 14 March.

Participants took part in a variety of sporting events and activities, including football, volleyball, badminton and table tennis and, along with spectators, were treated to a banquet of traditional Malaysian cuisine.

Ian Hamlet, general manager at the Shiregreen-based sports centre which is managed by Sheffield International Venues (SIV) said: “We were delighted to welcome the Sheffield Malaysian Games back to Concord. The event is a great sporting spectacular and is a brilliant way of bringing the Malaysian community together to compete in a fun, yet competitive environment.”

Launched in 1992, the Sheffield Malaysian Games has gathered an enormous number of participants and supporters, and is one of the largest sporting festivals for Malaysian students in the UK.
